Sending via MS Outlook is not working properly

Attachments are not added in MS Outlook, or an error appears: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Outlook.Application'

Written by Petr Pech

How the issue manifests

1. Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Outlook.Application'

When sending a document by email, the following error is displayed:

Součást ActiveX nemůže vytvořit objekt: 'Outlook.Application'

2. Attachments are not included

You are sending a document from ABRA Flexi, but the attachments are not included in the email.

Cause

The application is unable to establish a connection with MS Outlook.

👉 The most common causes are:

  • a corrupted or incomplete Outlook installation

  • or missing / corrupted Outlook registry entries

Solution

You can also find guidance in the official Microsoft documentation.

If the issue persists, follow the steps below.

1. Default app settings

Search for Default apps in your system settings and set the desired application.

At a minimum, MAILTO, .eml, and .msg should be set correctly.

2. Configuring registry entries directly

If the desired mail client is already set as the default in Default apps but Flexi still does not launch it, check the registry (search for "Registry Editor" or press WIN+R, type regedit, and confirm with ENTER):

Navigate through the folders to the following path (or copy and paste it):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Clients/Mail

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Clients/Mail

  • your default email client should be set here (e.g. "Microsoft Outlook" or "Thunderbird")

  • if a different client is set or the column is empty, change the value to the correct email client

If you are using the new Outlook, enter "Microsoft Outlook (new)" in the registry.
