Product Warranty

GDPR in Practice

Written by Petr Pech

What is a product warranty

The product warranty is provided in accordance with generally applicable legal regulations.

  • The warranty period of 24 months begins on the date the customer takes delivery of the goods.

  • The warranty covers manufacturing defects only (not defects caused by the customer).

  • The warranty does not cover, for example, normal wear and tear, improper handling, improper storage, etc.

  • In our example, we will use the standard warranty period of 2 years (the warranty period may of course vary).

Product warranty in Flexi

Now let's look at our example of creating a purpose definition required for a product warranty.
First, you need to create a purpose definition.

  • The legal basis in the case of sending newsletters is Legitimate Interest.

  • On the Data Occurrence tab, the Issued Invoices agenda and the Email, Phone fields should be listed.

  • For a warranty, the validity will be set to Automatically from the start of the record's validity (as soon as we sell the goods, the warranty becomes effective).

  • The purpose validity period (= warranty period) is 2 years in our example.

Further settings — whether it concerns data access (authorized person), the procedure upon expiration, or adding a note or description on the Texts tab — are of course up to you, but we recommend filling them in for the purposes of potential verification by the personal data protection authority.

Purposes can subsequently be found in the GDPR -> Purposes register. Here too, as in most registers in Flexi, filtering is available (by company, by purpose definition, etc.).
