Partial and Full Disposal of Depreciable Assets

Practical Example of Partial and Full Disposal of Registered Assets

Written by Petra Roubalova

In the following article, we will demonstrate the recording of tangible fixed assets and the partial or full disposal of assets. In ABRA Flexi, we will navigate to the "Assets" module.

If an asset that has been in the company's ownership since the first day of the tax period is disposed of, it is possible to apply half of the annual tax depreciation before determining the residual value (when using straight-line or accelerated depreciation). If the tax residual value is recognized only up to a certain amount (disposal due to damage) or is not recognized at all (donation), it is important not to forget the tax depreciation in the year of disposal.

Full disposal of a depreciable asset

It is important to be in the accounting period in which the full disposal occurred. In the asset card, go to the "Events" tab and use the "Add" button to create a "Full Disposal" event. Enter the date and the amount representing the disposed value of the asset.

A description of the event can be entered in the "Texts" tab.

When saving the event, Flexi will ask whether you want to apply the changes to the depreciation schedule.

After confirmation, the depreciation schedule will be updated according to the specified parameters.

At the same time, accounting processing will take place in the Accounting module. You can find it under Accounting / Accounting Outputs / Accounting Journal.

The challenge of partial disposal lies in determining the correct tax and accounting acquisition cost or residual value of the permanently disposed portion of the asset. The remaining asset will continue to be recorded at a reduced acquisition cost, or with a residual value reduced by the disposed portion.

!!!WARNING!!!

As of version 2023.3, an incorrect behavior has been fixed.

A fixed asset with a classification date earlier than the start of depreciation did not allow an event (disposal) to be entered.
