How to Close a Period Without Carrying Over Closing Balances as Opening Balances

Written by Lenka Haringerová

First and foremost, it is important to note that we recommend this procedure only as a last resort — for example, when an old fiscal year (e.g., from 5 years ago) is reopened and you do not want closing that period to cause discrepancies in subsequent years. We always recommend starting with the standard accounting period initialization, which you can run on a company backup to verify whether any balances have changed.

If there is no other option and initializing the accounting period would cause balances in subsequent periods to become misaligned with no way to correct them, you can use this guide. Before you begin, make a backup of the company and ideally test the procedure on that backup first.

First, we will export the XML file by double-clicking on the accounting period listed under the company name, or by selecting Company - Change or Add Accounting Period:

Next, click on "Accounting Period Management":

Then click the "two arrows" icon, select Export to XML, and save the file to your computer.

Next, open the XML file in a text editor. For the open period, the parameter zmenaZaver will have the value "true".

To close the period, this value needs to be changed to "false":

You can now save the modified file and upload it back into Flexi. In the Tools menu, select Import - Import from XML and choose the modified file from your computer.

In the dialog box, confirm the update:

Flexi will then notify you that the import has been completed:

And the accounting period is now closed:
