Right to Rectification

GDPR in Practice

Written by Petr Pech

What is the Right to Rectification

The Right to Rectification means the following:

If a data subject suspects that their stored personal data is inaccurate (whether subjective or objective in nature), they are entitled to request that the relevant company correct it.

The data subject also has the right (taking into account the purposes of processing) to completion of incomplete personal data (e.g., by providing a supplementary statement).

The data controller should also ensure that online rectification requests can be submitted (particularly where personal data is processed by electronic means).

How to Submit a Right to Rectification Request

Let's now walk through our example of creating a Right to Rectification request.
Open the Requests register in the GDPR module.

  • It is important in this case to specify the request type as Right to Rectification.

  • The maximum time allowed to resolve the request may vary; in this example, 1 month is indicated.

  • Next, select the data subject from the directory who submitted the request, and the person within your company who is handling it.

Additional details such as Circumstances, Note, Communication, and Attachments are optional, but we recommend including them in case you need to provide evidence to the personal data protection authority.
