Technical Improvement of Depreciable Assets

Increasing the Acquisition Cost of an Asset During Depreciation

Written by Petra Roubalova

In the following article, we will show you how to apply a technical improvement to an asset that is already being depreciated.

It is important to be in the accounting period in which the technical improvement took place. In the asset card, go to the "Events" tab and use the "Add" button to create a "Technical Improvement" event. Enter the improvement amount and, if applicable, the extension of the accounting depreciation period.

A technical improvement may extend the useful life of an asset, which would also mean changing the depreciation period. Unlike tax depreciation, accounting depreciation should more accurately reflect reality, including any change in the length of use of the given asset, which often occurs as a result of a technical improvement.

In the "Texts" tab, you can enter a description for the technical improvement.

When saving the event, Flexi will ask you whether you want to apply the changes to the depreciation schedule.

After confirming, the depreciation schedule will be updated according to the specified parameters.
