Allocation of Incidental Costs to Warehouse - GUI

Allocating Overhead Costs to the Price of Goods in the Desktop Application

Written by Petr Pech

The inventory additional cost allocation service allows you to retroactively increase the price of received goods.

There are multiple ways to enter additional costs — we will now walk through each of them.

Increase the purchase price per unit by an amount

Use this method if you know the exact amount by which you need to increase the purchase price per unit for the relevant item.

In the goods receipt line item, on the "Main" tab, you can enter this amount in the "Additional Costs" field. The change will also be reflected in the posting of the inventory document.

Increase the price of an entire delivery

Use this method if you need to increase the price of an entire delivery — i.e., all line items of an already created goods receipt — for example, to add freight charges, etc.

Both the goods receipt and the received invoice include an option under the Services button called Allocate Additional Costs to Inventory. This is the option we will use for bulk allocation.

Total inventory items

This field shows the total amount for all line items on the inventory receipt, i.e., the total value of the entire receipt document.

Costs to allocate

Enter the amount by which you need to increase the value of the given inventory stock.

Total acquisition cost of items

This field is calculated automatically based on the preceding values.

In the lower section of the dialog, select the cost allocation method:

  • If you select by price, the costs to allocate are distributed proportionally across all unit prices. For example, if the delivery value is CZK 20,000 and the additional costs are CZK 10,000, that represents 50% of the purchase price. Therefore, each purchase price per unit will also be increased by 50%.

  • If you select by quantity, the costs to allocate are divided by the total number of units in the delivery, and the resulting amount is added to the acquisition price per unit. For example, if the delivery contains 20 units and the additional costs are CZK 10,000, the price per unit for each item will be increased by CZK 500, regardless of the existing purchase prices per unit.

Both allocation methods are reflected in the posting of the inventory document.

Flexi also allows you to increase the price of total inventory stock without modifying previous receipts. See the guide in which we describe how to do this.
