Migration from a dedicated server to Flexi cloud

How to migrate data between server and cloud.

Written by Jana Šťastná

This article will guide you step by step through a successful migration and everything you need to complete it. Thanks to a straightforward data transfer process, you can avoid complex adjustments — your data will remain in its original format. There are two basic migration options: using a dedicated add-on or transferring data manually.

Preparing for migration and creating a cloud instance

Before you begin, you must have a cloud instance set up. If you do not have one yet, please contact our sales team, who will prepare a cloud environment tailored to your needs. We will customize the pricing offer based on your chosen license configuration. If your payments are settled by December 31, you can move to the cloud from January 1, 2026, or switch immediately with billing starting from the following year.

Add-on for data transfer from a Windows server

We recommend using the add-on tool for easy data transfer from a Windows server. Simply download the prepared .bat file and connect it to your server. This tool ensures that your server automatically creates backups of individual companies in your instance and uploads them to the cloud. You can download the add-on here.

Manual data transfer

The manual data transfer method is universal and can be used on all platforms. It involves the following steps:

  1. In your existing instance, create backups of all companies you want to migrate.

  2. Log in to your cloud instance and restore each backup one by one, selecting the production company option.

  3. Once the transfer is complete, user passwords are automatically reset. You will need to set new passwords for each company in the Users agenda. A detailed guide to data restoration can be found here: Web / Desktop.

  4. If you use the desktop application, you will need to update the data source to make it compatible with the cloud instance.

Important information for a smooth data transfer

  • Backup timing: We recommend creating backups when no one is actively working with the data. This ensures that all data is transferred in its current state without any discrepancies — for example, after business hours or on weekends.

  • Third-party integrations: After migration, you will need to update connections with external applications (add-ons) to reflect the new server address and company ID. Contact the application vendor for assistance if needed.

  • Cloud data storage size: The size of data stored in the cloud is charged according to the current price list (from 1 GB and above). For more information, contact the sales team at obchodflexi@abra.eu.
